Kavari didn’t come to Green Bay by chance—she came to start over.
After going through a series of hardships, she made a decision: she wasn’t going to stay stuck. She wanted something better—for herself and for her daughter. When she arrived, she was starting from scratch. No steady income, no permanent place to live, and a lot to figure out in a new (and somewhat unfamiliar) community. For a short time, she stayed in a shelter while focusing on her most basic needs—food, housing, and stability.
But even in that moment, Kavari had a clear mindset. As her case worker shared, her past didn’t hold her back—it pushed her forward. She knew what she had been through, and it motivated her to build a different future.
Taking the First Steps
Through the Wisconsin Works (W-2) program, Kavari started putting the pieces together.
With support, she was able to find stable housing and get access to food and financial resources. She also worked through the process of securing child care, including getting help to cover those first few days until assistance kicked in. That step alone made a huge difference—it gave her the ability to start working and focus on her next goals.
And once she got going, she didn’t slow down.
Kavari picked up a part-time retail job to bring in income right away. At the same time, she made a commitment to herself: she was going to finish her education. Working closely with an Education Navigator, she stayed consistent, putting in the time and effort needed to earn her HSED.
It wasn’t easy. Behind the scenes, there were long days filled with applications, phone calls, studying, and problem-solving. She was balancing a lot at once, but she handled it all with determination. As her case worker put it, she was juggling multiple responsibilities and still managing to keep moving forward.
In just a few months, she earned her HSED.
Building Something Bigger
That accomplishment opened new doors. While finishing school, Kavari kept working and soon landed a full-time job as a personal care worker, helping others with their daily needs.
Balancing work, school, and being a mom is no small task, but Kavari made it happen. She stayed focused and didn’t let obstacles get in her way. She knew what she needed to do—and she did it.
Now, Kavari has the stability she came to Green Bay for. She has a home, a full-time job, and a strong foundation for her and her daughter.
And she’s not done yet.
She’s looking into college, with interests in nursing or business, and she dreams of one day owning her own business. At the same time, she’s taking a moment to appreciate how far she’s come.
Kavari came to rebuild and she did exactly that. With support from the W-2 program and her own determination, she’s created a new path forward with each step filled with stability, growth, and real possibility.
