Sometimes, moving forward means finding a new path.
Ryan came to the Wisconsin Works (W-2) program seeking financial and educational assistance after barriers made it difficult for him to continue in his current career field. Although he had experience in a management role, he did not have an educational background to help him take the next step in his career.
Together, Ryan and program staff talked through his work skills and experience and explored opportunities that could build on what he already knew. Office Professionals Training was identified as a good next step, and Ryan enrolled in the training.
The journey came with a few setbacks, but Ryan continued moving forward. He ultimately completed the Office Professionals Training, gaining educational experience in office-related skills and another important accomplishment to build on.
Ryan’s determination has remained a key part of his journey. He is described as upbeat and driven, with a strong desire to gain the skills and education he needs to move toward his goals.
Now, Ryan is working to connect with WIOA as he pursues postsecondary education. His goals include earning a degree and finding employment in human resources or child development, with the hope of working with children with disabilities.
Ryan’s story shows what can happen when someone has the opportunity to build on their existing strengths while gaining new skills and education. His career path may have changed, but his determination to keep learning and moving forward has not.
Completing Office Professionals Training is one step in Ryan’s journey, and he is already looking toward what comes next.
