FSET provides me with support and structure to find a job
We are lucky to work with clients who remind us every day why this work matters. Sandra is one of those people.
Sandra was unemployed and doing everything she could to find work. She was actively working with temp agencies, hoping to land a stable job, but despite her efforts, interviews and job offers just weren’t coming. To give herself some breathing room while she continued her job search, Sandra applied for FoodShare (SNAP/EBT benefits). During that process, her local Income Maintenance (IM) agent recognized Sandra’s strong work ethic and desire to find employment and referred her to the FoodShare Employment and Training program (FSET).
That referral became a turning point.
A Program That Works
The FSET program is designed to help people who are receiving FoodShare benefits connect with meaningful employment. The program is completely free and can also help meet work requirements while participants search for jobs, build skills, and move toward self-sustaining employment. For Sandra, FSET offered something she hadn’t had before — consistent guidance, encouragement, and a clear plan.
Sandra’s immediate goal was straightforward: secure full-time employment. But her bigger dream went beyond just a job. She wanted a sustainable paycheck that would allow her to spend time with her partner and her dog, and one day own a home of her very own. These weren’t unrealistic dreams — they were goals worth planning for.
After enrolling in FSET, Sandra met with her case manager to map out a realistic and achievable path forward. Together, they created a plan that balanced job searching with long-term stability. Sandra received gas vouchers through FSET so she could travel to job interviews without added financial stress. Just as importantly, she gained around-the-clock support from her case manager — someone in her corner to problem-solve, celebrate wins, and help her push through setbacks.
A Path Forward
Since joining FSET, Sandra has been busy. She has applied for numerous positions and has already landed multiple second interviews. Her dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. Sandra is personable, reliable, and brings a strong work ethic to everything she does. She’s always thinking ahead and giving her best effort, even when the process feels long.
Sandra’s journey is still unfolding, and we are incredibly hopeful about what’s ahead for her. Her persistence, positive outlook, and willingness to keep showing up speak volumes. We’re proud to support her and excited to see where her hard work leads.
