Doris’s Journey Continues: From HCST (TrANS) Graduate to Industry Leader in the Making

When Doris first shared her story, it was one rooted in courage, determination, and a powerful vow for change. As highlighted in her original feature, Doris made the decision to take control of her future by stepping into the Highway Construction Skills Training (HCST) program—formerly known as the TrANS program—with a clear goal: build a stable, meaningful career in the heavy highway industry and create new opportunities for herself.

That commitment was evident from the very beginning.

A Standout from Day One

Doris enrolled in the program in 2018, and she didn’t just participate—she excelled. With laser focus and relentless drive, Doris completed the six-week training curriculum in just five weeks, setting the tone for what would become a remarkable career journey. Her dedication, work ethic, and willingness to learn quickly distinguished her as someone ready to succeed in a demanding field.

Once graduated, Doris’s first career opportunity was with Northeast Asphalt, where she stepped into the critical role of flagger, helping ensure the safe and orderly flow of traffic through active construction zones. It was a position that required focus, communication, and responsibility which Doris delivered tenfold.

Over three construction seasons, she proved herself to be a consummate professional, earning the trust and respect of her crew and supervisors. But for Doris, showing up wasn’t enough. She viewed every role as a chance to grow, learn, and move forward.

Rising Through the Ranks

When a Quality Control Tier 1 Nuclear Density Technician position became available, Doris seized the opportunity. Over the past four seasons, she has mastered her craft and built an impressive list of certifications that reflect both her expertise and her commitment to excellence.

Today, Doris holds certifications including:

  • Nuclear Density Level 1 Technician
  • Aggregate Technician Level 1
  • HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt) Technician

Each credential represents not just technical skill, but her determination to continually elevate herself within the industry.

And her journey doesn’t stop in the field. Doris is now on the verge of graduating with an associate’s degree in Business Administration from the College of Menominee Nation. By combining hands-on industry experience with formal education, she is positioning herself not only as a skilled technician, but as a future leader in highway construction.

A Story of Growth and Possibility

Doris’s journey—from HCST graduate to highly certified professional and soon-to-be college graduate—is a powerful example of what’s possible when opportunity meets determination. Her story continues to inspire current and future HCST participants, reminding us that success isn’t just about where you start, but about the commitment to keep moving forward.

We are incredibly proud of Doris and excited to see where her journey leads next. Her story is far from over—and we can’t wait to watch her continue to build a future rooted in purpose, leadership, and success.
