When Brian graduated from our HCST (Highway Construction Skills Training) program in December 2012, he had no idea just how far his determination and newfound skills would take him. What he did know was that he was ready to work hard, learn on the job, and build a future for himself in an industry where opportunities are as vast as the projects themselves.
Starting a Career in Highway Construction
Brian’s story is a testament to what’s possible when preparation meets persistence. Fresh out of the HCST program, Brian stepped into his first role in heavy highway construction as an apprentice carpenter. For Brian, this entry-level position was a crucial first step forward. He took every chance to learn, putting his training into action and absorbing everything he could from experienced crews and supervisors.
Gaining Experience with Lunda Construction
Brian’s dedication soon caught the attention of others in the field. He moved to another construction company, where he continued to expand his hands-on experience. With every bridge, road, and structure he worked on, Brian refined his skills and strengthened the foundation that the HCST program had laid for him. He didn’t shy away from long hours, challenging tasks, or the unpredictable weather that comes with highway construction. Instead, he embraced each obstacle as a chance to grow.
Becoming a Journeyman Carpenter
But Brian didn’t stop there. To broaden his experience, he transitioned into the building trades—a move that required him to adapt his skill set and prove himself all over again. True to his character, Brian met this challenge head-on. He became a Journeyman Carpenter, a position that called for an even deeper understanding of his craft and a commitment to quality and teamwork.
Leading Projects as a Construction Superintendent
Today, Brian stands at the helm of large projects as a Superintendent. In this role, he doesn’t just build structures—he builds teams, leads with integrity, and manages complex projects with confidence. Every day, he draws on the lessons he learned as an apprentice, as a journeyman, and as a student in the HCST program. His journey is living proof that there are no shortcuts to success—only hard work, persistence, and a willingness to keep learning.
Perseverance and Passion Make the Difference
What truly sets Brian apart is his unshakable resolve. He never gave up, never gave in, and never quit. Even when the days were long and the work was tough, Brian stayed focused on his goals. His story is a powerful reminder to every aspiring construction professional that success isn’t handed to you. It’s built one project and one day at a time.
