From CNA to Pediatric Nurse: How FSC’s WIOA Program Helped Meadow Achieve Her Nursing Dream

A Dream Rooted in Compassion and Determination

This program has greatly improved my life. I truly do not think I would be where I am today without my Career Services Specialist. She helped me so much through nursing school, finding an apartment, looking for jobs that were a good fit for my career goals, and learning how to navigate difficult coworkers.

For Meadow, becoming a nurse was never just about finding a career. It was about creating stability, building a meaningful future, and helping others through some of life’s most difficult moments. Even while facing significant personal and financial challenges, she stayed focused on her long-term goal of working in healthcare.

Before connecting with the WIOA program through Forward Service Corporation (FSC), Meadow was already showing incredible perseverance. She had earned her CNA certification and continued pushing forward despite barriers related to housing, finances, workplace stress, and navigating adulthood largely on her own.

“Before working with our program, Meadow was navigating major life challenges while still staying focused on her future,” says her Career Services Specialist, Megan. “She had already earned her CNA and showed incredible strength, resilience, and determination as she continued working toward her goals. Her journey is a powerful example of perseverance and growth.”

Still, determination alone could not remove all the obstacles standing in her way.

Finding Support Through FSC’s WIOA Program

Meadow was referred to FSC’s WIOA program through NWTC because she needed help accessing the resources necessary to continue her education. Like many students pursuing demanding healthcare careers, she faced financial pressures that threatened to derail her goals.

She needed assistance with tuition, mileage, books, licensing fees, uniforms, shoes, and tools required for nursing school. She also needed guidance in finding safe housing, managing stress, building financial literacy, and identifying career opportunities aligned with her long-term goals.

That’s where Megan and FSC’s WIOA program stepped in.

“This program has greatly improved my life,” Meadow says. “I truly do not think I would be where I am today without my Career Services Specialist, Megan.”

Meadow credits Megan with helping her navigate nearly every aspect of the process, from completing FAFSA paperwork to budgeting and financial literacy. Beyond the practical support, Meadow says Megan’s encouragement made an enormous difference during difficult moments.

“She helped me so much through nursing school, finding an apartment, looking for jobs that were a good fit for my career goals, and learning how to navigate difficult coworkers,” Meadow explains. “Her support helped me keep going even when things were hard.”

Excelling in Nursing School Despite the Challenges

With support from FSC’s WIOA program, Meadow was able to fully invest in her education and continue progressing toward her dream career.

Her hard work paid off in extraordinary ways.

Because of the support she received, Meadow successfully completed her Associate Degree in Nursing with a 4.0 GPA and graduated with high honors. She also passed the NCLEX exam and officially became a Registered Nurse.

Today, Meadow works as a Triage Pediatric Registered Nurse at Prevea Health while continuing her education in a bachelor’s degree program at Capella University.

“WIOA greatly helped funding it, navigating the employment process and education process,” Meadow says. “I was able to pass my NCLEX exam to become a Registered Nurse and now I am a Triage Pediatric registered nurse at Prevea.”

Megan says Meadow’s success comes as no surprise.

“She is a determined, compassionate, and hardworking person who has shown a great deal of resilience,” Megan explains. “She has a caring heart, strong work ethic, and a real passion for helping others, which makes nursing a natural fit for her.”

Growing Beyond the Classroom

While Meadow is proud of her academic and professional accomplishments, she says one of the biggest transformations happened internally.

Through the challenges she overcame, she developed confidence, emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of self-advocacy.

“I became more competent in adulting and managing multiple responsibilities,” she says. “I became more confident in myself. I was able to bounce back from stressful situations better and talk through problems in a healthy manner.”

She also learned the importance of setting boundaries, prioritizing mental and physical well-being, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

“I was not afraid to ask for help,” Meadow says. “I really learned how to set boundaries and learn work life balance.”

A Future Full of Possibilities

Although Meadow has already accomplished so much, she is still aiming higher. Her long-term goal is to complete graduate school and become a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics.

She also dreams of building a stable future outside of work — owning a home, raising a family, traveling, and being able to care for the people she loves.

For individuals considering returning to school or pursuing career training but feeling overwhelmed by financial barriers or personal struggles, Meadow hopes her story shows what is possible with the right support system.

FSC’s WIOA program helps individuals facing barriers access career training, education support, financial assistance, and career guidance so they can build sustainable futures. Meadow’s journey is proof that with determination, encouragement, and the right resources, life-changing success is possible.
