When Edward “Eddie” entered our Northeast Wisconsin HCST program, he already had something powerful driving him forward: a commitment to building a better future for his daughter.
From the very beginning, Eddie stood out as someone determined to succeed. Recommended highly before he even joined the program, he quickly proved that every positive word about him was deserved. Rather than waiting for instructions or taking the minimum steps required, Eddie took initiative at every opportunity.
Before even enrolling in Fox Valley Technical College’s Behind the Wheel program, Eddie independently completed every requirement needed to move forward in his commercial driving career. He earned his Class A CDL permit and FED/MED card on his own, demonstrating the kind of motivation and self-discipline employers look for in the construction and transportation industries.
That momentum never slowed.
Building a Strong Foundation for Success
Through hard work and dedication, Eddie went on to earn his Manual Class A CDL License along with doubles and tanker endorsements. Each certification represented another step toward a stable, rewarding career—and another example of his willingness to push himself further.
But Eddie’s success wasn’t just about passing tests or collecting endorsements. It was about showing up every single day with consistency, reliability, and determination.
Commuting daily from Appleton, Eddie never missed a class. He was never late. He never backed away from a challenge. Whether the task was difficult, unfamiliar, or physically demanding, Eddie approached it with professionalism and focus.
That level of commitment made a lasting impression on everyone around him.
Turning Training Into a Career
In early April, Eddie was hired by Carew Concrete, where he immediately became a valued member of the team. Transitioning from training into the workforce can be intimidating, but Eddie stepped confidently into the role and quickly proved he was ready for the demands of the job.
Since being hired, he has successfully dropped chutes and poured concrete across numerous Wisconsin communities, including Appleton, Sheboygan, Waupaca, Scandinavia, and New London.
His work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn helped him earn trust quickly in a fast-paced industry where reliability matters. Eddie demonstrated that he was not only capable of doing the work, but committed to doing it well.
For many participants, the HCST program represents an opportunity to gain skills and secure employment. For Eddie, it became the launchpad for a meaningful career and a brighter future for his family.

Throughout his journey, Eddie remained focused on the reason he started.
From day one, he made his purpose clear: he was doing this for his daughter.
That motivation fueled every early morning commute, every class, every certification, and every challenge he overcame along the way.
