From Homeless to Hopeful: Brandon’s Journey to a Brighter Future in Brown County

When Brandon walked out of prison, he had nothing but determination. No job. No money. No home. But he had a promise to himself: he was never going back and he would do whatever it took to build a better life.

Referred to the FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program by the Department of Community Corrections, Brandon met with our team in Brown County ready to work. His immediate needs were clear—find a job and secure housing. His long-term vision? Financial stability, a safe place to live, and eventually, a home of his own.

Together, we created a roadmap:

  • Step 1: Get hired.
  • Step 2: Find an apartment.
  • Step 3: Save money.
  • Step 4: Buy a home.

With support from the FSET program, Brandon quickly landed a job. We provided steel-toe boots so he could start right away and connected him with NEWCAP, which helped him secure housing.

Today, Brandon is in a much better place—both mentally and financially. His once uncertain future now looks bright. He’s setting his sights even higher with a new goal: completing his Associate’s Degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering.

When asked about his secret to success, Brandon’s advice is simple but powerful: “Just keep grinding!” His story is proof that with the right mindset, support, and resources, people can overcome even the toughest challenges.

If you or someone you know in Brown County is ready to take the first step toward employment, stability, and a brighter future, the FSET program is here to help.
