From Incarceration to Independence: Casey’s Journey to a Brighter Future

Remain vigilant, remain focused, and never give up.

Hard work and dedication pave the way to success, and Casey is living proof. After spending three years incarcerated, Casey found himself at a crossroads. He had no job, no car, and no clear path forward. But with unwavering determination and the support of Forward Service Corporation’s FSET and HCST programs in Brown County, he transformed his life.

Overcoming Obstacles with FSET and HCST

Upon his release, Casey was determined to become financially independent and contribute positively to his community. He took the first step by enrolling in the FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program and the Highway Construction Skills Training (HCST) program. Through these programs, Casey was equipped with essential resources to help him succeed.

FSET provided Casey with steel-toe boots, ensuring he had the necessary gear for his new job at Greif, Inc. To overcome transportation barriers, he received gas vouchers—first to help his father drive him to work, and later to support him after he bought his own car. These small but significant steps made a world of difference in helping Casey stay employed and focused on his goals.

A Roadmap to Success

Casey’s journey wasn’t just about finding employment—it was about building a future. His roadmap to success was clear. First, he needed to secure a job. Then, he enrolled in HCST to receive additional training. With newfound skills and experience, he set his sights on pursuing a career in carpentry.

With his dedication and the right support, he checked off the first two goals and is now well on his way to achieving the third. His growing confidence in himself and his abilities has been evident every step of the way.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future

Casey’s next goal is to secure his own apartment, a significant milestone in his journey toward full independence. Given his track record of determination and perseverance, there’s no doubt he will achieve it. His success story serves as an inspiration to anyone facing challenges—proof that with the right mindset and support system, transformation is possible.
