I’ve always dreamed of getting my CDL, and thanks to WIOA, I am now able to pursue this dream!
Aric’s path was fraught with uncertainty and anxiety. However, through the compassionate assistance from our partners and our Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program, he found the strength to pursue a new dream.
When he first visited the Wisconsin Rapids Job Center in mid-February, Aric was grappling with the shock and uncertainty of losing his job at the local factory. This sudden change brought about feelings of anxiety and concern for his family’s financial stability, especially with two young boys and a daughter in college.
Finding Support
During his initial meetings with Lori and Susan at the Job Center, Aric felt a sense of relief as they listened to his story with empathy and understanding. Their quick referral to our WIOA Program and the warm handoff to our WIOA Career Specialist, John, provided him with a glimmer of hope. John’s supportive and reassuring approach during their intake appointment in late February helped Aric feel more optimistic about his future.
As Aric expressed his dream of becoming an over-the-road truck driver, he felt a renewed sense of purpose. The process of exploring training options and enrolling in the Truck Driving program at Northcentral Technical College (NTC) was both exciting and daunting. However, John’s guidance and the structured support of the WIOA Program gave Aric the confidence to move forward.
Throughout his training, Aric faced the usual challenges of learning new skills and adapting to a rigorous schedule. Yet, his determination and positive attitude kept him motivated. The financial support from the WIOA Program alleviated some of his stress, allowing him to focus on his studies without worrying about the costs.
Achieving Success
When Aric successfully completed the program and obtained his Class A CDL license, he felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. This milestone was not just a personal victory but also a significant step towards providing a better future for his family. Accepting a position with a local trucking company marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, filled with hope and excitement for the road ahead.
