From Job Training to a Remote Career: How FSC’s FSET Program Helped Katie Launch a New Future

When Katie enrolled in our FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program, she had a clear goal: build a stable career that would allow her to support herself and her family. Although she had limited work experience, she was determined to invest in her future through education, job training, and hard work.

Katie’s FSET Case Manager, Emily, recognized that determination from the very beginning.

“Katie was motivated to better herself and establish a career path that will help her support her family,” Emily shared.

Like many job seekers, Katie faced barriers beyond simply finding employment. She needed reliable transportation assistance, including bus passes to attend program activities, and she was searching for training that would prepare her for a career with long-term growth. Her dream was to secure a full-time office or administrative position that would allow her to work remotely while building financial stability for her family.

Gaining In-Demand Professional Skills

Through FSC’s FSET program, Katie found exactly the opportunity she had been seeking.

She enrolled in two of FSC’s Professionals Training programs: Office Professionals and Call Center Professionals. These career-focused trainings are designed to equip participants with practical, employer-valued skills that prepare them for today’s administrative and customer service careers.

To ensure Katie could fully participate, the FSET program also provided a loaner laptop throughout both courses, removing a technology barrier that could have prevented her from completing the training.

Rather than simply learning new skills, Katie embraced every opportunity the programs offered. She developed professional office competencies, strengthened her customer service abilities, and gained confidence in presenting herself to employers.

Those efforts would soon pay off in an exciting way.

Taking Initiative Creates Opportunity

During the Call Center Professionals training, Katie met representatives from a company that visited the class to discuss their current employment opportunities at their company. Instead of waiting until graduation, Katie took initiative.

She immediately applied for an open position and reached out to establish a connection with the employer. Her preparation, professionalism, and newly developed skills made a strong impression. After just one interview, Katie received a full-time job offer for a remote position—before she had even completed the training program!

Looking Ahead with Confidence

Landing a full-time remote position is only the beginning of Katie’s journey. Her next goal is purchasing her own vehicle, giving her even greater independence and flexibility. She’s also excited to continue developing new skills on the job, gaining valuable experience that can lead to future promotions and career advancement.

With a solid foundation now in place, Katie is well positioned to continue building the future she envisioned when she first entered the FSET program. Her success reflects not only her dedication and perseverance, but also the value of career-focused training that prepares participants for today’s workforce.
