Every journey begins with a single step, and sometimes, that first step is the hardest. For Murtadha, his journey began in 2012 when he immigrated from Jordan to the United States, carrying with him the hope of a better life and the resilience that only those who leave everything behind truly understand.
In November 2024, after years of hard work and dedication, Murtadha proudly became a U.S. citizen. But citizenship wasn’t the end of the road—it was just the beginning.
Overcoming Life’s Challenges with Strength and Compassion
Kind, friendly, and deeply caring, Murtadha had already overcome many obstacles. One of the most personal challenges came when he needed to take several months off from work to care for his sister during a serious health crisis. It was a choice he made without hesitation, reflecting the selflessness that defines his character.
A Career Shift: From Factory Work to CDL Truck Driving
When he was ready to rejoin the workforce, Murtadha knew he wanted something different—a path that would give him more stability, flexibility, and a sense of purpose. He wanted to become a professional truck driver and obtain his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). But like many others with a dream, Murtadha faced a big question: how would he pay for the training?
That’s when he turned to Forward Service Corporation and enrolled in the FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program. Through FSET, Murtadha connected with a case manager who recognized his drive and potential and referred him to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program.
How WIOA Helped Murtadha Succeed in CDL Training
WIOA opened a door that had seemed firmly shut. With financial assistance from WIOA, Murtadha enrolled in a full-time, four-week CDL training program at the Milwaukee CDL Institute. The WIOA program didn’t just help cover his tuition—it also provided mileage reimbursement for the nearly 200-mile daily commute to and from school. That support was crucial. Without it, the daily drive would have placed an impossible financial burden on Murtadha and threatened to derail his dreams.
He graduated from the program in June, proud and prepared to hit the road with his new CDL. Now, with his license in hand, Murtadha is ready to enter a field full of opportunities. Truck driving offers competitive wages, job stability, and the freedom he’s been seeking. More importantly, it gives him a chance to achieve the self-sufficiency he’s worked so hard for.
Why WIOA Is a Game-Changer for Job Seekers
Murtadha’s story is a powerful reminder that success isn’t just about where you start. It’s about where you’re willing to go. It’s about perseverance, community support, and the power of programs like WIOA that exist to lift people up when they need it most.
