You guys were very helpful in helping provide me what I needed to get a job. You also were very helpful in helping me find a job.
We often hear about second chances, but Jacob’s story truly captures the essence of transformation. Just before his release from prison, where he was incarcerated for drug possession, Jacob crossed paths with an FSET worker named Craig. This meeting marked a pivotal moment in Jacob’s life.
Craig introduced Jacob to the FSET (FoodShare Employment and Training) program, explaining how it could serve as a gateway to employment and a fresh start. Inspired by Craig’s encouragement, Jacob took the leap. A week later, he reached out to Craig with exciting news: he was living at a nearby sober living house and had signed up for FoodShare. Determined to forge a new path, Jacob was eager to join the FSET program.
With Craig’s unwavering support, Jacob applied for a position at a local auto repair and tire shop. To his joy, Jacob secured the job as a forklift driver—an opportunity he embraced with gratitude and enthusiasm. But Craig’s support didn’t stop there. He also helped Jacob get a bus pass for his commute, steel toe boots for safety on the job, and a voucher for work clothes, ensuring he had everything he needed to succeed.
Jacob’s positivity is infectious, and his dreams are ambitious. His ultimate goal is to become an AODA (Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse) counsellor, helping others who find themselves in situations similar to his own. His journey is a testament to the power of support, determination, and hope.
“Jacob is one of the most positive people I have ever met,” says Craig. “He turned his life completely around and is clean and sober today. Jacob is also extremely grateful for the things we have been able to help him with. Not a visit ever ends without Jacob saying ‘thank you’. Go get that dream Jacob!”
Jacob’s story serves as an uplifting reminder that with the right resources and encouragement, anyone can turn their life around and inspire others in the process. We celebrate his achievements and look forward to hearing more as he continues on his path of service and healing.
Let’s keep rooting for Jacob and others like him who are working hard to rewrite their futures!
