After being released from prison, Matt knew he wanted a fresh start and a clear career direction. He enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program seeking support to establish stable employment and pursue a CDL-A career pathway.
A Clear Plan for a CDL-A Career
Reflecting on his experience, Matt shared:
“When I got out of prison I had a game plan for what I wanted to do for a career but didn’t know how to implement it, which was very stressful. I did my research and got in contact with Brittany at FSC and from that moment on my stress was gone. I was given a clear path on how to achieve my goals and was given the proper tools and assistance to complete them. I’m very thankful for the assistance I received.”
Like many individuals reentering the workforce, Matt had the determination, but needed guidance on how to move forward. Through WIOA, he received individualized planning, structured support, and the tools necessary to turn his career goals into action.
Strong Performance in CDL Training
Matt demonstrated strong motivation throughout his CDL-A training. He earned high classroom scores and progressed quickly through both simulator and road instruction. His consistent engagement reflected his commitment not just to completing the program, but to building a long-term career.
With guidance from his WIOA Case Manager, Matt actively participated in job search activities. He carefully evaluated multiple employment opportunities, considering factors such as wages, schedule, and commute to ensure the right fit. His Case Manager provided ongoing support throughout the process, serving as a professional reference and assisting with employer communication.
Securing Full-Time Employment in Just Three Months
Just three months after enrolling in WIOA, Matt accepted a position with K & K in January 2026. He reports a positive adjustment to the role and remains motivated toward financial stability and long-term career growth.
His transition into full-time employment marked a significant milestone — not only securing a job, but establishing a foundation for self-sufficiency and advancement within the transportation industry.
Commitment, Accountability, and Long-Term Success
Throughout his WIOA journey, Matt remained engaged and committed. His training provider reported steady progress and a strong work ethic. He demonstrated determination and accountability, taking ownership of his success and utilizing available supports when needed.
With training, individualized career planning, and ongoing support services, Matt successfully transitioned into meaningful, full-time employment. His story highlights how personal dedication, structured workforce development programs, and supportive case management can come together to create lasting outcomes.
