After spending 18 months incarcerated, Daniel made a decision: this would be the last time. He was ready to move forward, leave his past behind, and create a life he could be proud of. And he meant it.
A Different Mindset This Time
When Daniel enrolled in the Pathways Home program, while still incarcerated, he didn’t wait for change to happen. He started planning for it.
He knew what he needed: a job, stable housing, and a way to get his Class A CDL back after losing it due to addiction. But more than anything, he wanted stability and to stay sober.
“I’m a recovering addict. I’ve been sober for 2.5 years,” Daniel shared. “I intend for this to be my last time in prison.”
Putting in the Work
From day one, Daniel showed up with focus and determination. He stayed engaged, followed through, and took every step seriously.
With support from Pathways Home and his case worker, Angel, he was able to:
- Complete his AODA assessment
- Pass his DOT physical and drug screening
- Renew his CDL
- Get work clothing, tools, and transportation support
Everything he needed to move forward—he used. And it paid off.
Real Progress, Real Results
Daniel didn’t just talk about his goals—he reached them.
He secured full-time employment as a truck driver with a local trucking company. He found stable housing. He built income. And he continues to maintain his sobriety.
“This program helped me get there faster,” Daniel said. “Angel was always there—checking in, helping me stay on track, and making sure I had what I needed.”
Step by step, things started to fall into place.
Building What’s Next
Now, Daniel isn’t just thinking about getting by—he’s thinking about what’s next.
He wants to keep growing in his career, build his savings, invest in his future, and eventually relocate somewhere warm to buy a home and land.
“I’m working on my savings and rebuilding my credit,” he said. “I’ll keep looking for opportunities to be successful.”
A Reminder We All Need
Daniel’s journey hasn’t been easy—but it’s real. It’s intentional. And it’s still unfolding.
His advice says it best:
“No matter how bad things seem, if you stay focused on your goals and dreams, you will succeed if you are following the right path in life. Don’t let your past hold you back. The person who you were yesterday does not have to be the same person who you are tomorrow. The change can start today.”
Daniel didn’t just start over—he stepped forward. And now, he’s building a future that’s entirely his own.
A Path Forward
Daniel’s story reflects the impact of targeted reentry support and the power of opportunity. With the right resources at the right time, individuals returning home can move beyond uncertainty and build lives rooted in purpose, pride, and possibility.
Wisconsin Pathways Home continues to support individuals like Daniel as they take meaningful steps toward stability, employment, and a brighter future.
Thank you to the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board for helping make this journey possible.
