“My Pathways worker was so great and helped me with anything I needed.”
When Amanda returned home to Waushara County after incarceration, she faced more than just a fresh start—she faced homelessness, disconnection from her family, and uncertainty about where to begin. With no clothing, no phone, and no job, the future looked unclear. But thanks to her own determination—and the support she received through Forward Service Corporation’s Pathways Home program—Amanda’s story is now one of transformation, growth, and renewed purpose.
Amanda was referred to the Pathways Home program by Institution, and from the moment she connected with her Pathways worker, the course of her life began to change. Her immediate needs—housing, clothing, hygiene products, a phone, and a job—were met with compassionate guidance and critical resources.
Building a New Roadmap: Jobs, Certifications, and Transportation
While Amanda wasn’t sure exactly what kind of job she wanted, she had experience in Food Service and CNC (Computer Numerical Control). Forward Service Corporation (FSC) supported Amanda in earning her ServSafe Manager Certification, a crucial step in rebuilding her confidence and employability.
She also secured a farm job while continuing her job search. But rural employment opportunities can be hard to reach without reliable transportation.
Through a referral to WETAP (Wisconsin Employment Transportation Assistance Program), Amanda was approved and able to purchase a vehicle. This expanded her job search radius and ultimately led her to a CNC position, a field she was trained in while incarcerated.
Community and Connection: More Than a Job
The impact on Amanda as she progressed through the program was not just practical—it was personal. She reconnected with her family, taking a vital step in building a supportive foundation for her future. Each success helped her grow stronger and more confident. With essentials like clothing, hygiene items, gas cards provided by FSC, and consistent encouragement from her Pathways worker, Amanda began to believe in herself again.
A Determined Spirit with a Clear Vision
Those who worked with Amanda in Pathways describe her as honest, determined, and hardworking—someone who genuinely wants to do well and is willing to put in the effort to achieve her goals. Though their time together was brief, the transformation in Amanda was noticeable. By the end of her journey with the program, she exuded more confidence and had a stronger sense of purpose.
Her new goal? To find a place of her own—and with her continued drive, it’s only a matter of time.
