From Uncertainty to Empowerment: Annette’s Journey Back to Work in Winnebago County

When a company merger led to the loss of her job, Annette was suddenly faced with an unexpected question: What now? With few job opportunities aligning with her experience and passions, she considered stepping outside her comfort zone—exploring new careers, training, and resources that could lead to a brighter path forward.

But she didn’t have to face it alone.

Referred by WIOA to the FoodShare Employment & Training (FSET) program, Annette began her journey of rebuilding not only her résumé, but her confidence, direction, and long-term goals. She put her trust in both programs—and in herself.

“Knowing I wasn’t alone and I had you both to work with” was life-changing, Annette shared, reflecting on the support she received from her FSET and WIOA case managers.

Building a Roadmap for Change

From day one, Annette showed up with a smile and a strong sense of purpose. She met with her case managers regularly, staying committed to her employment plan and embracing each step along the way. Together, they discussed her immediate needs—whether that meant searching for the right job or pursuing new training. They helped her update her resume, submit job applications, and explore local resources to build new skills.

Through this steady, determined effort, Annette found clarity in her goals. She narrowed her focus, weighing the benefits of volunteer opportunities versus paid employment. Ultimately, she secured a position as an Escrow Officer at First American Title Company—a job that reflects her strengths and allows her to support her family with pride.

A Dream Realized—And New Goals Ahead

Annette’s original dream was simple and powerful: get a job. Now employed and thriving, she’s set her sights on what comes next—staying happy in her career and providing steady financial support for her children as they continue their education. In fact, her journey has already inspired her family: her son is now enrolled in the WIOA Youth Program, following in her footsteps.

Resilience, Joy, and Forward Momentum

Throughout her time with FSET and WIOA, Annette demonstrated what it means to show up—not just physically, but with intention, grace, and a willingness to grow. Her ability to ask for help when needed, to prioritize goals wisely, and to remain hopeful in challenging moments speaks volumes about her character.

Her case managers describe her as self-aware, resilient, and endlessly optimistic. Annette approached every appointment with a positive attitude and walked away from each one stronger and more focused. She didn’t just see the impact the programs had on her: she embraced it and paid it forward to her family.

A Brighter Future in Winnebago County

Annette’s story is a shining example of how personalized support, access to opportunity, and a strong sense of self can lead to transformative results. The partnership between WIOA and FSET gave her the tools, but it was Annette’s determination that turned those tools into a new beginning.

Congratulations, Annette! Your journey reminds us that with the right support system and unwavering dedication, dreams are always within reach.
