From Uncertainty to Empowerment: How Alexis Found Career Success Through FSET and W-2 Support

I found a job, a community, and a road that led into my career.

After losing her job during maternity leave, Alexis faced the daunting reality of raising two young children on her own without a steady income. “Once my son was able to get into daycare, I was still without a job—with two littles, living on my own,” she shared. But through determination, support, and a clear goal in sight, Alexis turned her hardship into a stepping stone toward a brighter future.

Building a Foundation with FSET and W-2

In Winnebago County, Alexis connected with Forward Service Corporation through the Wisconsin Works (W-2) program, which referred her to FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET). These programs helped her stabilize her situation, offering childcare assistance, budgeting help, and case management to meet her immediate needs.

But Alexis didn’t stop there—she saw this as a launching pad.

More Than a Job: A Community and a Calling

Through W-2, Alexis began a work experience position at Forward Service Corporation in Oshkosh. She joined FSET shortly after, receiving continued guidance, encouragement, and resources that supported her next bold move: applying for a full-time position with FSC.

With preparation, coaching, and newfound confidence, Alexis interviewed and landed a position as a Job Developer in Fond du Lac. “My goal was to find a stable job that pays the bills,” she said. “I found more than that—I found a job, a community, and a road that led into my career.”

Empowered, Inspired, and Moving Forward

Alexis’ journey has inspired those around her. According to staff, working with her was a privilege:

“Her unwavering determination and resilience have been nothing short of inspiring. Despite numerous personal and professional challenges, she remained focused on her goals, transforming every obstacle into an opportunity for growth.”

Through her time with FSET and W-2, Alexis gained confidence, strength, and drive. She became more open-minded, empowered by positive reinforcement and the realization that she could achieve anything she set her mind to.

And she’s not done yet.

A Vision for the Future

Now, Alexis has her sights set on her next goal: going back to school to earn a degree in school counseling and eventually becoming a guidance counselor. With the tools and self-belief she’s gained, she’s well on her way.

Alexis’ story is proof that with the right support and determination, it’s possible to build a new path—one paved not only with career success but also personal growth.
