For Jordan, starting a career in construction meant being willing to learn, listen and take every opportunity to grow. As a March graduate of our Highway Construction Skills Training (HCST) program, Jordan is proving that age is no barrier to building a successful career.
Even though he was still too young to move beyond probationary driver status, Jordan arrived at HCST ready to work hard and do whatever it took to prepare for the construction industry. His determination quickly became one of his greatest strengths.
From Zero Experience to a Career in Construction
Jordan entered the construction industry with no prior experience, but he did not let that hold him back. Instead, he approached every new challenge with curiosity and an eagerness to learn.
His ability to “listen with his eyes, ears and intuition” helped him quickly overcome his lack of experience. By paying attention, asking questions and applying what he learned, Jordan established himself as a valued member of his team.
That commitment paid off. In late April, just weeks after graduating from HCST, Jordan secured a position with Northeast Asphalt as a Quality Control Technician.
Today, Jordan plays an important role in road construction projects. His responsibilities include conducting quality control inspections and measurements, recording and analyzing data, and documenting results through laboratory and quality management systems. His work directly contributes to the quality and safety of the infrastructure communities depend on every day.
Building a Foundation for Advancement
Jordan’s story demonstrates what can happen when determination meets the right training and opportunity. His journey from having no construction experience to taking on critical responsibilities in the industry is just the beginning.
