Reclaiming Independence and Confidence: Tiffany’s Journey Through the W-2 Program

For Tiffany, progress didn’t happen overnight. But through determination, consistency, and a willingness to try new things, she began rebuilding her independence and confidence step by step. As a participant in the Wisconsin Works (W-2) program, Tiffany’s journey reflects how supportive services, meaningful work experiences, and personal resilience can create lasting change.

Starting from a Place of Transition

Before connecting with Forward Service Corporation through a referral from Bridgeway & Beyond, Tiffany was navigating a period of major transition. She was staying in a transitional living home while working through personal family concerns, addressing her legal background, and maintaining sobriety and overall health. Like many individuals facing layered challenges, her immediate needs were clear: stable housing, transportation, and employment or SSDI support.

Despite these obstacles, Tiffany remained focused on her dreams and goals. Described as determined, hardworking, and positive, she was open to learning and committed to creating a better future for herself and her family.

Building Skills, Confidence, and Independence

Through her participation in the W-2 and FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) programs, Tiffany began gaining access to the tools and experiences she needed to move forward. With transportation assistance and supportive services, she achieved one of her most important goals: obtaining her driver’s license. This milestone marked more than just mobility, it represented a return of independence and control over her daily life.

Tiffany also increased her employment skills through hands-on work experiences at Bridgeway & Beyond and within our FSC office. These opportunities helped her build confidence, consistency, and professional skills while reinforcing her strong work ethic. Through program activities, she strengthened her typing skills and gained experience applying for jobs, all practical steps that supported her long-term employment goals.

Finding Purpose Through Connection

One of the most meaningful changes Tiffany experienced came through connection with others. By working with refugees and assisting them with learning how to type and apply for jobs, she stepped outside her comfort zone and discovered a new sense of purpose. She described how these interactions helped her “get out of [her] shell” and grow more confident in herself.

During this time, Tiffany shared a powerful reflection with her W-2 case manager:
“Hearing what you do and how you help people makes me want to do what you do.”

That moment captured a shift, not only in confidence, but in vision.

Growth That Extends Beyond Employment

As Tiffany progressed, the changes were clear. She became more open, more confident, and increasingly able to advocate for herself. She strengthened her employment skills, expanded her social connections, and gained confidence in her abilities, all while continuing to prioritize her health and sobriety.

She also received support connecting with DVR, with her worker assisting through the referral process. Each step built momentum toward greater stability and self-sufficiency.

Looking Ahead With Purpose

Today, Tiffany is actively working toward her future goals. She is pursuing her own housing, strengthening her connection with each of her children, and maintaining her overall health. Professionally, she is focused on becoming a peer support specialist, working toward obtaining PTE, and ultimately hopes to become a recovery coach, a role that reflects her lived experience, empathy, and desire to help others.

A Story of Determination and Forward Movement

Tiffany’s story is one of steady progress, personal growth, and renewed confidence. Through the W-2 Program, supportive services, and her own determination, she transformed challenges into opportunities and redefined what was possible for her future.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, and the courage to keep going, lasting change is within reach.
