Our Wisconsin Works (W-2) program is designed to help parents achieve self-sufficiency through employment. It offers a range of services including training, job placement assistance, and so much more. This comprehensive approach helps parents build stable careers and improve their family’s financial stability.
Tori’s story is a testament to the transformative power of our W-2 program. After 13 years as a stay-at-home mom, Tori decided to re-enter the workforce. Though excited, she couldn’t help but feel nervous about this new chapter. However, with the support of her new team by her side, Tori was able to achiever her goal and then some! Hear about Tori’s experience in her own words.
After 13 years as a stay-at home mom, I decided to jump back into the workforce when my youngest started kindergarten. I joined the W-2 program to help with finding employment, feeling both excited and nervous about the change.
I had put my freelance graphic design business, I’ve been running since 2001 on hold to focus on raising my kids. I thought I would have to give it up to start working as a traditional employee. But to my astonishment, I found that my skills in art, design and computers could help me with the work I did at my Work Experience placement that was assigned to me. I started working at a thrift store called Thrifty Treasures. It turns out that we complement one another perfectly! Through FSC’s Office Professionals class and other trainings, I’ve gained essential skills that are now crucial to helping me revive both our businesses.
The support from my caseworker and the rest of the staff at FSC have been incredible, and my boss is an absolute treasure of a human being. I could not have asked for a better mentor. This journey has been empowering, and I’m eternally grateful for the opportunities they’ve given me.
