Forward Thinking: Scam and Fraud Prevention

On Thursday, March 21st, we held a Forward Thinking session covering online scams and fraud and what you can do to protect yourself.  We were honored to have with us Michael Domke, Agency Liaison for the Bureau of Consumer Protection with Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, to discuss the different types of scams and red flags to look out for.

Some key takeaways from the session:

  • With ever-changing technology, scams are on the rise and getting more sophisticated
  • If you think you’ve been scammed: say something! We can only help those who report it
  • Anyone can fall for a scam. Take 15 seconds before interacting with anything and decide how to verify its authenticity before acting.
