Bahati Keeps His Beat

Bahati stands in front of his new car.

Bahati has always had a love for music and its ability to bring people together. He was a professional DJ before leaving the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and he’s been hoping to restart that career since coming to Wisconsin. He’s been striding toward that dream with confidence since we congratulated him on earning his first job in the United States last year.

Working in the kitchens at Lawrence University came with a nice perk. Not only was Bahati able to earn money in the U.S. for the first time, he also enrolled in their ESL classes. Since understanding the language better, Bahati learned more about other career options.

Before long, he asked his Refugee Services case worker Emily about advancing into manufacturing.

Manufacturing is a steadily growing field with lots of opportunities, and Bahati wanted to earn more for his future – still hoping to start his own DJ business. So Emily introduced Bahati to ORBIS Corporation, where he was warmly welcomed and offered a position on their production team.

After four months on the job, he’s been able to save up for a car of his own and earn his Driver’s License. He’s also saving for a set of technical equipment so he can start DJing again. For now, however, he says that he loves how supportive the team at ORBIS is, and he hopes to keep growing with them while pursuing his passions.

“I know Bahati will succeed in his dreams,” says Emily. “He has a great network of support around him, and his resilience and determination will take him far.”

Keep reaching for the stars, Bahati! You can do this.
