On Thursday, January 17th, we held our first Forward Thinking session of 2024 covering ABAWD Work Requirements. Speaker Megan Sawall, Program Coordinator for FSC, was on hand to walk us through the requirements and exemptions of the specific requirements for Able Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD).
Some key takeaways from the session:
- If someone does not meet their ABAWD work requirements within a 3-month period, they can lose FoodShare for up to 3 years
- There are many exemptions to the requirements (outlined in the linked slides), particularly for those who are pregnant or reside in a household with children under 6
- Programs like W-2, FSET, WIOA and others count toward fulfilling ABAWD requirements
