Meet Lamyra

Reflecting on her journey, Lamyra said “I look at my kids and myself, and everything we’ve overcome: abuse, depression, and a lack of confidence. I know I don’t have to live in fear anymore. I can now allow myself to succeed.” This wasn’t easy, by any means. After leaving an abusive relationship, Lamyra wasn’t at all sure what her future held. She had always wanted to help people, but didn’t have the experience or education to make this a career. Our Wisconsin Works staff partnered with Harbor House to make it happen. It began with finding child care, particularly for her daughter’s special needs. Once this was done, Lamyra’s life started to change quickly as she enrolled in the Nursing Assistant program. She worked hard with a whole team at FSC and Harbor House cheering her on. Today, she’s put this into action with a job as a Certified Nursing Assistant. The changes have been remarkable, as Lamyra says “I’ve become a person who is confident. I know I can get where I want to be if I don’t give up, and I keep trying.”

Congratulations Lamyra!
