I want to encourage other young women to be brave and trust yourself to be able to reach your goals.
Amanda wants to share her story with all the young women out there who need a little bit of encouragement today.
That’s because today, we’re congratulating Amanda on several life-changing accomplishments. She’s been on what she calls a “surreal” success journey since approaching our team in Fond du Lac. From having her second child to enrolling in college, it’s been an exciting time. That surreal feeling, however, comes from knowing that everything would have been different if she didn’t have the courage to take a few critical steps.
Amanda was expecting her second child. She didn’t have a job, and without her high school diploma, finding prospects that pay a family-supporting wage was hard. Instead of struggling on her own, however, Amanda took her first step toward a better future. She approached our team in Fond du Lac and learned how she could start the career she’d always wanted – even with a baby on the way!
Amanda joined FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) and Wisconsin Works (W-2). Together, her friendly team helped her get the resources and guidance to start a career in healthcare. It was something she’d thought about for a long time but never knew was possible.
“I am so grateful and thankful for the chance at achieving my dreams,” says Amanda. With support from her team, she found housing, earned her high school diploma, and found work as a caregiver. She also enrolled at UW-Madison to pursue a Medical Assistant degree – the opportunity of a lifetime with a chance for an on-site internship.
“I want to encourage other young women to be brave and trust yourself to be able to reach your goals,” Amanda states. “You have the strength in you, you just have to find one or two things to keep you going – for me that’s my kids.”
Congratulations, Amanda!
