A personal touch can go a long way. When Michael found a job through our FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program in 2020, he was eager to make it work. The last thing he wanted was to lose that job and have to start all over again a few months later, but that’s exactly what happened. As a result, Michael was tempted to throw FSET to the curb and try it on his own. Then a handwritten note arrived from his case manager that changed everything.
“I received a call from Michael thanking me for reaching out to him and not giving up,” says Carrie, his FSET Case Manager. That small gesture showed him that someone really cared, and if we weren’t giving up on him, then he wasn’t going to give up on himself either. Michael spent the months ahead redefining himself as one of the most enthusiastic participants we’ve met.
“Michael’s positive attitude and continued optimism shined through,” says Jordan, recalling a conversation where Michael described his interest in factory or outdoor work. She connected him with Wendy, our Job Developer. She sent him the job leads that lead to interviews, a few busy days of preparation, and a job offer!
Today, Michael is working full-time at Neenah Foundry, and he’s “thoroughly thankful” for the assistance he received through FSET. We’re truly thankful to have helped! Congratulations, Michael.
