Regina has what it takes

Regina on-the-job in her new construction apprenticeship.

Congratulations to Regina, who’s recently earned her apprenticeship in construction! She learned about us while looking for a new career with room to advance. Now, she is on her way to an exciting future in an industry with plenty of opportunities for those eager to grab ahold of them.

“When I first came to the Fox Valley Area, I was unsure of myself and what the future held,” says Regina. She adds, “but with the direction and resources offered by Forward Service [Corporation], I was able to accomplish my goals and more!“

Regina came to FSC to explore her options. She joined the FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program for career guidance and was curious about what training options were available to her. Her case manager, Rachel, told Regina about various supportive services she could get like workplace certifications, free computer access. One course that stuck out to her was Highway Construction Skills Training (HCST).

Regina perked up. Construction sounded interesting, and with support from FSET, she could attend classes in Green Bay. A borrowed laptop from FSET meant she could complete virtual classes and homework from home, and gas vouchers from FSET helped her commute to Green Bay for the hands-on parts of the class.

During the class, Regina learned everything she needed to get a solid start in construction, including the kind of positive, determined attitude she needed to advance on the job. “The staff held me accountable and pushed me to my full potential, all while encouraging me along the way,” says Regina. “So grateful for this program, specifically Ranard and Rachel. Thank you!”

Right away, Regina earned a construction apprenticeship with BOLDT. The HCST program arranged interviews for their graduates, where recruiters noticed Regina’s talent and determination. When she heard about the new job, Rachel (FSET case manager) also helped her get work clothing and tools to start.

This won’t be all for Regina, though. She continued studying to earn her CDL, and plans to learn as much as possible so she can advance in her career.
